5 ways to become your managers favorite employee

Every workplace has two groups of workers, crew that toils hard but is hardly ever noticed and the Bossother that right away comes to mind. The second group are the ones who are recognized and at the beginning of all action. Job success requires more than hard work, right qualifications, completing projects in unrealistic deadlines, and making an effort. To be really outstanding you need to be noticed by the manager.

In order to be noticed and recognized by the boss you will need to:

1. Be a leader in everything you do.

Volunteer to accept extra assignments, to help with someone else’s heavy work when they are behind, help out when a team is working under a tight deadline. Make valuable recommendations. Let co-workers know they can rely on you for helping hand.

2. Update your skills and education often.

The business today moves at a ever increasing pace and everyone needs to keep up with latest technology as well as business trends. Make every effort possible to be ahead of the latest trends in your field of work. Especially if your work offers training, make sure to take advantage of it. Not only will it help you work better but it will give you a “brawny points” next time you are considered for an advancement.

3. Be friendly and pleasant.

Nobody likes to be around a grouch. Have a pleasant thing to say about all workers, show your good manners, and have a pleasant smile and caring attitude. Don’t be brash, judgmental and refrain from office gossip. People that constantly participate in the office “rumor mill” are more likely to be passed by for a promotion.

4. Be focused and know what is expected of you.

Be organized at your work and have facts and figures readily available when your boss needs it. Be prepared for meetings, be a go-getter and make suggestions and back them up with your actions. Listen before you speak, many people talk to fill the air, but they don’t slow down and listen to what manager is expecting of them. When you listen first, than you speak the words of wisdom.

5. Dress for success, nobody wants to promote a slob.

Unfortunately, it takes more than talent and hard work to impress the manager, be ahead of the office crowd in the race for career success.
