boiler-plate cover letter

There is nothing more annoying to a hiring manager than to read a boiler-plate cover letter that is meant to cover all job postings, but it does not answer the questions/ requirements that are stated in the job posting. If you really want to get a job, do not send out a generic cover letter to all the job postings you see, take time to create a custom cover letter for each job you are applying for.

The ad tells you what they are looking for in the possible candidate. Look for certain key words that the possible employer is throwing in the ad, such as:

-accounts payablejobbing

-accounts receivable

-customer service experience

Whatever the key words are in the ad, make sure you address all of them in your cover letter. Average hiring manager spends between 6 – 10 seconds on each cover letter, so you need to make sure you capture their interest, or your resume will get filed away.

Do not reply to the job posting right away. wait a day and think about how you are going to answer the ad.

Think about the keywords/ requirements stated in the ad, how does your experience meet them. Make sure you address all of them in your revised cover letter.
